La Boqueria Market: Barcelona

As you all know, last month I went on a short city break to Barcelona, and if you haven’t been, well I strongly suggest that you book a flight right now. Like now.

I’ve been to Barcelona on day trips before whilst I’ve been in Spain with my family, but never long enough to try out the whole city, and boy did we cram a lot into those 3 days! From open top bus hopping in the day to sipping cocktails at the Hard Rock Cafe at night, there really is no shortage of fun things to do in this fabulous city, and as for the weather, you just won’t want to leave.

Where do I even begin with this place! So imagine Willy Wonkers Chocolate Factory, crossed with the biggest ice cream van you could ever imagine, crossed with an entire ocean full of sea food, crossed with the mot amazing bakery in the world. You get the point right? It’s incredible!

thumb_DSC00384_1024We were told that we had to stop by and have breakfast at La Boqueria, but by the time we’d actually chosen from the most amazing looking foods ever, it was practically lunch time because there’s just so much choice! The best thing about the market is that it’s just so cheap, with fresh fruit smoothies costing just a euro (that’s just 74p). In the UK, you’re looking at at least £3 for a decent fresh smoothie, and that’s at the lower end of the scale! First up, I treated myself to a banana, coconut and chocolate smoothie which I 100% recommend for all you chocoholics out there!

It’s so easy to be healthy whilst in the market, because the hoards of fresh passion fruit, watermelon and bananas are endless, along with every other fruit that you could imagine, from your local Tesco and beyond. On the other end of the scale, it’s also the best place to treat yourself if you’re feeling rather naughty and fancy a cheat day which I just had to do, because when in Barcelona, right?  Their chocolate chip muffins are to-die-for, and are also probably bigger than my head. The best surprise? it was filled with gooey Nutella in the middle. I know, go crazy!

The final treat just had to be the ice cream; from avocado to Kinder Bueno, La Boqueria has it all. I treated myself to a scoop of Nutella ice cream, and a scoop of Snickers (basically peanut butter), and that my fit friends, is heaven right there.

It’s safe to say I went on a detox after the trip, but was it worth it? Absolutely!
